The congregation is governed by a Unified Board. The current members include the following.

Anne Kleffner (Chair) - Anne is a Professor of Risk Management & Insurance at the University of Calgary. She moved to Calgary in 1992 from Philadelphia and grew up in San Antonio. Anne loves the outdoors (running, hiking, biking, camping), loves traveling, loves food and loves spending time with friends and family.

Gail Niinima (Past Chair) - Gail is trained as a Textile Conservator - she runs her own business, which specializes in Textile Conservation of historic textiles and Collection Management of museum collections. She is pretty passionate about textiles and costumes and especially enjoys making costumes for theatre or film. She also loves cross-country skiing and coaches a women’s 55+ XC ski group in the winter. Gail and her husband Veli live in the NW and have a daughter Lisa, married to Samantha Palmer and another daughter Sara, who lives in Vancouver.

Alyssa Thompson (Secretary) - details to come

Dave Harker (Treasurer) - details to come

Darlene Loney - Darlene professes to be a perpetual student on the journey of life! The journey brings her and her family John, Regan and Jack from the town of Didsbury, AB at least twice per week, and sometimes more, to Hillhurst United Church. They came to Hillhurst United for the first time in 2014 as they searched for a place they could learn spiritually with a community that shares their values of radical acceptance and advocacy. These values are also reflected in the work she chooses to do as a rural Medical Social Worker in Didsbury for the last 8 years. Her intention is to sit with people witnessing their journey and supporting them as they move through the difficult challenges of life. Darlene is also a co-owner of a landscape company with her husband for the past 11 years. Darlene grew up in Mennonite/Evangelical traditions and was introduced to the United Church by her husband John. Darlene states "It truly feels like we come home to a supportive family as we participate in weekly services, the musical, youth programs, advisory committees, pride parades, concerts, workshops and so much more! I am so proud to join Hillhurst United on the journey."

Jeannette Carlson - Jeannette moved to Calgary from Victoria 4 years ago. Her education is in social work and public administration & she had a 30-year career with the BC Government. She has one daughter & four grandchildren. At HUC, Jeannette connects with the Contemplative Ministry and is involved with Congregational Care, the Prayer Shawl Ministry and Right Relations (she is currently exploring her own Aboriginal heritage). She sits on her Condo Board & is a Calgary Reads Tutor. Jeannette is a Healing Pathways practitioner and continues to study other energy healing modalities.

June Bennie - details to come

Larry Pearce - Larry has been attending Hillhurst United Church for three years (after many active years with another denomination), and became a member in March 2018. He is a Chemical Engineer and worked with Shell Canada, which moved the family across the country. After retirement in 1998, Larry continued his active involvement in affordable housing issues. He was a volunteer on staff 6 months per year for 8 years with Habitat for Humanity in El Salvador. His wife Lynn was a staff volunteer with a local church there. Since 2007 he has volunteered with the KAIROS Calgary Affordable Housing Working Group, supporting funding for mortgages of affordable apartments with the Calgary Homeless Foundation, and with volunteer support of residents with CUPS Calgary. Larry and Lynn have one son, one daughter and 5 grandchildren.

David Keegan - David is an academic family doctor at the University of Calgary.  He and his family moved to Calgary in 2008 and have been members of Hillhurst United Church since.  They were immediately attracted by "Whoever you are, wherever you're at, come join us" which his wife found when they were exploring options for a home church.  He and his kids have been involved in a bunch of Hillhurst musicals.  As a family, they are passionate about nature, being active, and being curious.
