REAL was the word on Sunday for our series on "what if...good religion happened?"
I was suggesting that what makes it real is authenticity and a deeper truth that grabs us and connects us. We explored the fact that people seeking church out these days look for that kind of realness.
Fortunately Jesus was a real person who addressed real people and their situations. This provided examples and modelling of how real can be transformative.
I find that Hillhurst invites realness and sniffs out fake pretty easily. We are open and try to be real...naturally. I looked at our main practices and offered the truth that truth is what awakens and connects us to the Divine. It was a good conversation...
On Saturday I was cooking Holy Hotdogs on the street as part of our Garage Sale
It was an awesome time connecting with people who don't go here. It was REAL conversation with 'strangers', I loved it, and then people showed up on Sunday...
It reminds me that when we are honest, open, and real... people respond.
The music. conversation, baptism, and talks by individuals were super and I felt all the pieces connected in a real way.
I am excited about the response to me via email, see the sermon on Vimeo and offer your two bits to the mix.
