Music
Are you interested in becoming involved in music at
Hillhurst United?
Hillhurst United Church Choir
From September until June,
The HUC choir meets regularly on
Thursdays, from 7:00-9:00 PM in the church sanctuary. We come together on Sunday
mornings at 10:15 to rehearse the service's anthem and hymns. New choir members
of any age are always welcome, even on a short term basis. If you like to sing
and have fun, join us on Thursdays and Sundays (except the last Sunday of the
month). Experience and excellent singing voice NOT required!
Contact us or just show
up!
There are also several opportunities to become involved
as an
instrumentalist. If you play guitar, bass, drums or any
other solo instrument, we'd love to hear from you! Please contact the
choir director for more
information.
Our
music is a blend of traditional and contemporary, from Bach to Leonard
Cohen. We are sometimes accompanied by our excellent pipe organ (one
of the few of its kind in the city!), piano, guitar and many other instruments. The last
Sunday of every month the choir takes a break and the congregation enjoys a more contemporary sound with a 5 piece
band and soloists.
Andreas
Berko
is the Director of our choir. Andreas is the Assistant
Principal
and music specialist at
St. John Fine Arts School across the
street from the church. He has directed church choirs at Southminster and Living
Spirit United, St. Mary's Church (Cochrane), the Calgary Boys Choir and the
Youth Singers of Calgary. Andreas is
often accompanied by his wife Kathryn, and their children Martina, Gabriel, and
Pearson are enthusiastic members of the Sunday School program.
Children’s Choir
If your little one has a flair for singing, we would love to have them
join our children's choir. They rehearse Sunday morning at
10:00 on special occasions throughout the year.
Please contact Frieda Fraser for more information.
The Band
The
last Sunday of each month the Hillhurst House Band plays music of our
lives. Paul Lung, Jeff Meszaros, Gregor Schoenberg, Ron
Cortes
and Doug Murphy are the guys. Their music is energetic and
contemporary - You won't want to miss them.
