Africa Bound! Kim Locke, Greg Powell and Jacob Schlinker are part of the Zambia team. They and other youth from Calgary Presbytery are in Africa during August on an Exposure Tour to see how people live in that part of the world. There will be fundraising events over the next few months. There is a change jar at the back of the Sanctuary, if you would like to donate your spare coins. If you would like to make a donation through the offering, indicate on your cheque or envelope that it should go to the Zambia trip. There will be a reverse bottle drive. Bring your bottles in and place them in the bin at the back of the church. Watch the website and bulletin for further fundraising activities.
Habitat for Humanity has close ties to the United Church in Calgary and has set aside a day each month for volunteers from the United Church to work on current building projects. Last year several congregations sent volunteers and we are encouraging others to take part this year. The United Church day this year will be the second Wednesday of each month and, since there are 11 housing projects being launched, Habitat needs our help on those days. If you are interested in participating email office@hillhurstunited.com.
Calgary is hosting the 2008 World Paddle Championships on August 23-30 (Anna Pentland is competing). There are 250 athletes from 16 countries competing. They need volunteers and donations of materials and cash. Please talk to Anna Pentland about how to get involved.
